Feliz aniversario, Maestro!

E’ stato affidato a Zaha Hadid il compito di progettare e costruire la nuova “Innovation tower” della Polytechnic University di Hong Kong:

PolyU’s new “Innovation Tower” will serve as a driving force in the development of Hong Kong as a design hub in Asia. The new Tower will also provide additional space to facilitate inter-disciplinary research and education in the field of design.

The new Tower will be located at the northeastern tip of the university campus. Construction work will begin in 2009 and the whole project is expected to be completed by end 2011. Upon completion, the Tower will provide some 12,000 square metres of net operational floor area and able to accommodate about 1,800 staff and students.

Per la Hadid si tratta della prima architettura “permanente” a Hong Kong che porterà la sua firma.

Il progetto per questi “giardini sospesi” dell’architetto giapponese Taketo Shimohigoshi è uno dei tre vincitori dell’edizione 2007 delgli AR Awards for architecture and engineering - i giudici hanno motivato la scelta con queste considerazioni:

The general condition of central Tokyo is one of extraordinary urban density, with buildings of all descriptions jammed against each other in a vibrant but sometimes claustrophobic way. Ingenious architecture, particularly domestic, fights for both area and volume, producing even tighter site conditions. While street activity reflects density of occupation, with shops and shoppers animating the urban scene, look up and you see a blank world of contiguous under-used space. The judges admired this winning design because it addressed both these conditions; by emphasising a cut between buildings with the introduction of vegetation beams (in this case covered in moss), the architect has neatly reversed the stereotype of that conventional Tokyo condition.

Ringraziando il cielo, è quello farlocco che chiude (cioè si _evolve_ sotto forma di magazine per donnine che si sposano e quindi, dovendo metter su casa, necessitano bulimicamente dei consigli per il décor di Martha Stewart…)

residence antilia, india (architects’ website)construction has begun on residence antilia despite opposition from those who see it as an ‘excessive’ design in a city where more than 65% of the population live in slums. politics aside and after you recover from the initial shock of seeing a skyscraper that resembles an ikea cd rack, the building actually looks like it may succeed as a stunning, unique, green piece of architecture.

Prima o poi fonderemo uno studio di architettura associato: puscic, sonoindeciso e la sottoscritta. Lo chiameremo ARCHITETTUMBLR. (ma si potrà avere un tumblr multiautore?)

La biblioteca di Cardiff (Wales, UK):

A quanto pare, quella di Cardiff è solo una soluzione temporanea: la collezione libraria della Central Library è stata provvisoriamente spostata in questo edificio su John Street (oddio, mi ricordo quando John Street era ancora un tracciato in via di asfaltamento, oltre il quale c’era il cantiere di Cardiff Bay… mi sembra sia passato un secolo.), in attesa del completamento del complesso a The Hayes, in zona più centrale.

Quella di Kansas City, invece, sembra essere una soluzione definitiva per la facciata del parcheggio annesso alla Central Library.
