11th Edition of the International Competitive Exhibition of Scenography and Theatre ArchitectureJune 14th – 24th, 2007 / Industrial Palace, Výstaviště Exhibitions Grounds, PragueThe Prague Quadrennial is coming your way! Even though preparations are well underway here in Prague for the 11th edition of the Prague Quadrennial International Exhibition of Scenography and Theatre Architecture, the PQ organizers will conduct a presentation at the Czech Centre in Rome, providing more information about the 40 year tradition of the event, as well as providing Italian audiences with a sample of what this year’s edition of the PQ has in store.

Production Manager Jan Rolník will be on hand April 17th at the Czech Centre in Rome to provide information about the entire PQ placing special emphasis on the activities that will take place throughout the City of Prague.

The PQ is officially divided into three basic categories: the National Section, the Student Section - SCENOFEST and the Section of Architecture and Technology. An integral part of the ten-day event will be the all-day programme of live events and activities. Visitors will have the opportunity of becoming familiar with the most recent theatre creations from all corners of the world, and those who are interested can actively participate in many of the accompanying events. This year, a record number of almost 57 countries have registered for the PQ.

During the competitive exhibition, the Golden Triga will be awarded to the country with the best presentation of its own unique theme. In addition to other prizes, the awarding of the UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts, given out every two years to those young artists in recognition for their outstanding achievements in the field of visual arts, will take place during the PQ. The award was given out during the Prague Quadrennial in 1999.

This is the 9th time that Italy is participating in the PQ, and this year in all three sections. In 2003, Italy received the Gold Medal in the Architecture Section for the project by Renzo Piano – Parco della Musica in Rome. Italy’s National Curator for the PQ 07 is Giorgio Orsini, who is also one of the editors of Josef Svoboda – Scenografo, an illustrated monograph about the life and works of Czech scenographer Josef Svoboda. Italian company Tony Cliffton Circus will also be a part of the PQ programming.
